Amy Underhill

Amy first discovered an interest in all things patterned when as a young child she helped to strip the woodchip wallpaper in her old family home. Beneath each layer of paper she encountered a new wallpaper pattern that the previous occupants had covered over. Through this experience she developed a passion for vintage interior design and decoration. From an early age Amy was fascinated with animals, acquiring a pet cat named Mog at the age of three.

Growing up she enjoyed looking after many small animals including several gerbils and a pet mouse! She often delighted in finding families of hedgehogs residing in the back garden of her childhood home as well as exploring the countryside of rural Herefordshire. The detailed illustrations of Jill Barklem, author of the Brambly Hedge books, were always of great inspiration. Amy went on to study Contemporary Textile Practice at Cardiff School of Art and Design where she was able to unleash her passion for pattern, gaining a BA Hons Degree in the process.

Amy now works as a freelance designer, combining her love for animals and pattern to create designs with a signature naïve style for everything from greetings cards to children’s clothing. She currently has two pet guinea pigs that provide endless entertainment and inspiration.
