Maria Maddocks
Maria has always been interested in drawing and making things, and as a child was always making handmade cards and gifts for friends and family.Maria graduated in 1999 and has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since. She creates illustrations mainly for the children’s publishing market.
Maria’s illustrations are an ensemble of painted, printed and found materials collaged together. Maria uses bright colours and patterned materials in her illustrations and is inspired by the colours and patterns used on 1950s fabrics and ceramics. Maria’s visual style is often quirky. She really enjoys illustrating children and animal characters, creating their personalities, and making them come alive on the page.
Maria has illustrated a number of titles for Ladybird books and Piggy Toes Press. She has produced illustrations for Egmont books, Caterpillar books and illustrations for the children’s educational market.
